About the Studio

A design studio that works the way you want an agency to work.

Design Sherman started in 2016 as a one-person studio in Laurel, Maryland. We have grown to a seven-person team, and we have kept the same practice of taking on work we can do properly and not stretching ourselves thin across too many clients at once.

We work with small businesses, professional services firms, SaaS companies, and nonprofits. The common thread is clients who want a website that performs a function, not just something that looks nice on a portfolio. We care about both, but the function has to come first.

Function over decoration
Good design serves a purpose. We start with what the site needs to do, then make it look right.
No vanishing act
We are reachable during a project and for 30 days after launch. Communication is part of the job.
Honest timelines
We tell you how long things actually take and we hit the schedule. Overcommitting helps nobody.
You own it after handoff
Every site we build comes with documentation, training, and a CMS you can manage yourself.
More About Us
How It Works

Five steps. No surprises.

Our process is the same on every project. You know what happens when, and nothing happens without your approval.

01
Discovery Call

We spend 45 to 60 minutes understanding your business, your audience, what you already have, and what is not working. No obligation. Just an honest conversation about what you need.

02
Strategy and Wireframes

Before we open Figma, we define the site architecture and content structure. Wireframes come next -- low-fidelity but detailed enough to confirm the layout logic before anyone invests in visuals.

03
Visual Design

High-fidelity mockups based on your brand (or the brand system we are building for you). We design desktop and mobile at the same time because responsive is not an afterthought.

04
Development

Clean code, fast load times, proper semantic HTML, and a CMS that you can manage without us. We document everything before handoff.

05
Launch and Handoff

We handle the technical launch, provide training on anything you need to manage yourself, and stay available for 30 days post-launch for any issues that come up.

Client Feedback

What clients say

“We had been talking about a website redesign for two years. Design Sherman got us from first call to launch in six weeks. The site is exactly what we needed and our inquiry rate has doubled.”

“I have worked with three other agencies over the past decade. The difference here is that they actually understand what a website is supposed to do for a business, not just what it should look like.”

“The Webflow build they delivered is clean, fast, and I can update it without emailing anyone. That was the most important thing to us and they delivered exactly that.”

“On time, on budget, and the result was better than what we expected. I have referred them to two other businesses already.”

Questions

Common things people ask before starting

A typical 5 to 8 page site takes 4 to 6 weeks from signed proposal to launch. Larger projects with custom development, e-commerce, or significant content take longer -- usually 8 to 12 weeks. The biggest variable is how quickly you can provide feedback and approvals. We tell you the schedule upfront and stick to it.
We prefer to work with client-provided content because you know your business better than we do. If you need copywriting support, we offer homepage copywriting as an add-on. We will always give you a clear content brief so you know exactly what we need and in what format.
Yes. This is one of our non-negotiables. We build every site with content management in mind, whether that is Webflow, WordPress, or another CMS. Before handoff, we provide training documentation and a walkthrough so you can manage the site without calling us every time you need to change a headline.
We primarily build on Webflow, WordPress, and custom HTML/CSS/PHP depending on the project requirements. For marketing sites and portfolios, Webflow is usually the best fit. For sites that need more custom backend functionality, we go custom. We recommend the right tool for your specific situation, not the one that is easiest for us.
Yes, as part of our Premium package or as a project-specific scope. We build on Shopify for product-based e-commerce and Webflow Commerce for smaller stores. For custom e-commerce requirements, we scope that separately.
Revisions are structured around phases, not open-ended rounds. In the design phase, you have a defined number of revision rounds depending on your package. We document everything we are changing in each round so nothing gets lost or repeated. Once design is approved and we move to development, design changes require a change order.
